It has worked out much better than planned size wise as it stretches right across the garden without me having to cut any wood. It did involve a lot of drilling though!
It took most of the day yesterday to get it in place and dig over the ground in it. I've turned the soil over so the grass is facing down and will hopefully die. I was disappointed to see absolutely loads of bindweed roots though in the soil which indicates that I might have a battle on my hands for a little while yet!

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

Location:Old Rd,Conwy,United Kingdom
richiesofthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03508699858886642182noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18919443.post-89607838514557120042011-04-10T19:17:00.001+00:002011-04-10T19:17:42.733+00:00PlantingBeen a gorgeous day today. So hot and sunny. Spent most of the day in the garden doing some planting and general gardening.

Mowed the lawn and did all the edging. Must get some lawn feed and weed soon as the dandelions have taken root in some areas. Got the old rotary lawnmower out the shed to take to the tip. The hover mower is so easy to use although is awkward to clean underneath when the grass is a little wet!

Planted out two courgette plants, butternut squash, Brussels Sprouts, lettuce, rocket, carrots, onions, tomatoes, and a cucumber seedling. Didn't manage to get around to the peas and potatoes!

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

Location:Conwy
richiesofthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03508699858886642182noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18919443.post-14582191826288195542010-12-25T19:47:00.001+00:002010-12-25T19:47:30.001+00:00Snow filled Conwy garden

This was taken last weekend. The grass was wet which made it a bit of a job - I wish now that I had left it until this afternoon as it has dried up nicely now and the sun is shinning. Nevermind.

I have picked more lettuce - enough to keep me in salad at work for the week I should imagine. Also picked the cucumber which will be a nice addition to the salads! There was one courgette on the plants which was a reasonable size - hopefully there will be more to go with it in the week.

Doesn't look like the tomato plants are going to be that productive this year. No tomatoes yet at all. Five of the plant look worse for wear and two look just about okay. Will give it a little longer but would be nice for them to have a blast of sun!

richiesofthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03508699858886642182noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18919443.post-40929481963068167322010-08-15T18:36:00.001+00:002010-08-15T18:36:51.049+00:00Courgette Plants

The courgette plants have done extremely well in their spot at the bottom of the garden and have become enormous! There were sunny spells but nothing major and it certainly wasn't dry enough to do much or even mow the lawn. Picked four more courgettes and a lettuce. Could do with a little more sun to get the tomato plants growing and help the aubergines. Hope it's dry tomorrow to allow me to mow the lawn!

richiesofthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03508699858886642182noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18919443.post-76482562582510080662010-07-31T21:29:00.001+00:002010-07-31T21:29:44.640+00:00Podded Peas

A close up of podded peas from the garden!
1. Where did you grow up? Did you like it there?

I grew up in Suffolk, East Anglia, in a town called Mildenhall. I did like it there and most of my family remain in that area but now I live in Conwy, North Wales. You couldn't get two places more different really with Suffolk being quite flat and North Wales very mountainous and near the sea!

2. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I would love to travel to the Galápagos Islands and see the unique wildlife there. I have always had an interest in biology and nature.

3. What was the first thing you crocheted?

This little pig for my Mum!

4. What are your top 3 favourite TV programmes of all time?

Ah that's a difficult question! I loved Top of the Pops, and Absolutely Fabulous, and Will & Grace. I have enjoyed more recently Medium, Nurse Jackie and Heroes!

5. Were you a good student at school?

Of course! I think I was an excellent student at school! I used to enjoy learning and still do. I remember doing my home work almost as soon as it was given - I think I was a bit of a swot!

6. What are you most proud of?

I am proud of my family and what I have achieved in my work and I am proud of all my knitted and crocheted creations!

7. What skill would you like that you haven't got already?

I used to play the piano but haven't done for many years now and would love to take that up again.

8. Would you ever give blood?

Yes!

Now for me to tag some people!

Bev
I have grown four bags of potatoes this year: earlies, middles, and two lates! I think they have all done well but they did suffer in the high winds a month or so ago. Will maybe have these in the week with salad!

richiesofthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03508699858886642182noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18919443.post-67621697553220464602010-07-25T10:09:00.001+00:002010-07-25T10:09:25.105+00:00Pea Pods

Picked these this morning. There were plenty more but I tried to pick the fattest pods thinking that the other ones will get bigger with time. Not sure if this is the case. Hope to eat them later with a roast dinner.

richiesofthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03508699858886642182noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18919443.post-12906248674046559282010-07-24T18:47:00.001+00:002010-07-24T18:47:08.626+00:00Peas

The peas have done well and could be harvested tomorrow for a roast dinner. You can see here carrots, radishes, garlic, onions, lettuce and brussels sprouts. You probably can't see the fennel sprouting up inbetween the two rows of lettuce which are coming on very slowly.
I have scattered another load of slug pellets around as the slugs are again numerous in the wet weather we have had recently.
